, a Markle, Indiana, steel erector has successfully erected hundreds of buildings in the northeast Indiana, northwest Ohio and mid-Indiana regions for over 15 years.
We currently have an opening for Safety Director.
Position requires strict attention to detail, thoroughness, and ability to multi-task.
Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Ensure that Safety procedures, administration and documentation with state and regulatory agencies, and others necessary and/or customary in the steel erection, fabrication, crane or equipment operation fields meet strict compliance.

The Safety Director will be responsible for conducting inspections at job sites and corporate headquarters, making the appropriate observations, making notations/documentations of violations, hazards or concerns that affect employee Safety and general Safety of the jobsite work area.
Inspection documentation should be archived logically and presentable upon demand by management or regulatory bodies as required.
Based on applicable regulations and industry requirements, any hazards should be addressed with management and recommendations made that enhance the Safety and health of employees exposed to cited risks.
In addition, supply and equipment inspections and minor repairs will need to be promptly addressed and completed.

Safety Director will also be responsible for maintaining, updating and making available the Safety program to jobsites as well as conducting Safety meetings with employees and compiling records thereof.
Any regulatory requirements, requests and deadlines must be met timely and without delay.
Safety Director will need to compile information for the purposes of generating internal reports that provide metrics as to Safety conditions and compliance.
Safety Director will also be responsible for taking part in any workers compensation insurance issues.
This will include making sure that occupational health facility sites, to which an injured employee would be directed, are arranged, and communicated to the appropriate field personnel.

In addition, Safety Director will be responsible for working with the insurance agent in maintaining the workers compensation insurance program as well as the maintenance of claims from inception to close.
Safety Director will be directed, as necessary, to perform and complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by management that may, or may not, be related to Safety issues.
Such tasks may include assisting various other departments such as estimating, project management, as well as assisting with the completion of the application process for various trade organizations and/or processes for certification.

As the Safety Director will be required to make jobsite visits, a company vehicle and gas card will be supplied for which business purposes ONLY are intended and authorized, including the transportation only of Smith Erectors or Structural Iron & Fab employees or cargo.
No family members, friends or other persons/cargo not related to Smith Erector's or Structural Iron & Fab's regular course of business shall be allowed access, transportation or otherwise use of said company vehicle.
Safety experience is recommended and salary is based on experience and work history.
